DDNS lookup IP address tool

Modified on Tue, 3 May, 2016 at 11:35 AM

The Asus branded routers that we supply include a subscription to a DDNS service. This enables the use of multiple WAN connections, most commonly a USB 3G/4G modem configured with a public IP address. In order to access the router remotely the DDNS hostname can be used instead of the IP address, since the IP address of the current active WAN connection will automatically be re-registered with the DDNS service.

The hostname format that we recommend using is:

{router-serial-number}.asuscomm.com (For example, to access the router remotely we could use http://a1bc2d345678.asuscomm.com:8080/ )

Beware of your local DNS cache

Although the DDNS hostname has a very low (120 seconds) TTL value, which means that it shoudl update every 2 minutes, some ISPs and broadband routers will ignore this value and cache (remember) the IP address even though the IP address has changed! If you suspect that this is happening on the connection that you're using (we'd like to think that you're sat in a coffee shop relaxing whilst you work, rather than tied to your office desk) then you will find the tool below invaluable; it's the actual DNS server where the DDNS service is located, and it will always give you a live result. Here's the link to the tool:
