Add Office 365 to your Windows 10 computers and tablets

Modified on Fri, 17 Feb, 2017 at 12:22 PM

Get the FREE apps (honestly, they are free) so that you can read/edit/create Word/Excel and other Office documents on your Windows 10 computer or tablet; these apps are very similar to the online apps, but they will also work offline. Unless you had subscribed to the Premium versions of Office 365 you were previously unable to work offline (such as on an airplane or rural location with no Internet access). We would recommend that every Office 365 subscriber installs these apps onto their Windows 10 devices - if only for emergency use.

Word

Excel

PowerPoint

Office 365 can sync your email, calendar and contacts. Additionally, you can add the OneDrive app which will allow you to access (open/upload/edit/share) files from your Office 365 storage (OneDrive for Business). We also recommend adding OneNote and Lens.

Setup email, calendar and contacts

  •  Method 1: Outlook Online App
    • We recommend using the web version (online) of Outlook since it contains a rich set of features very similar to the Premium desktop software; however, if you do want all of your emails available offline then consider installing the app in method 2 as a contingency
    • Change the settings of Outlook Online so that you can work offline - here's how: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Using-Outlook-Web-App-offline-3214839C-0604-4162-8A97-6856B4C27B36
    • This is ideal if you do not need all of your email & calendar, perhaps just the past few days will be sufficient
  • Method 2: Mail and Calendar App

Setup OneDrive for Business

Setup OneNote

Setup Lens

Setup Skype for Business

What next?

We would also recommend adding "Skype" in conjunction with PSTN voice services. If you want to be part of the growing mobile workforce it may be worth adding a subscription for a "Skype Number", so that clients calling from a regular land-line can contact you wherever you you are in the world - hopefully hitting the "work-life" balance sweet-spot sipping a coffee.

("Skype for Business" is also included free of charge - talk to us if you have a TEAM of staff who benefit from it's features, such as fully hosted Cloud PBX with national and international VoIP calling for your entire company)
