MikroTik LCD screen: configure a public IP address

Modified on Thu, 22 Dec, 2022 at 9:52 AM

Overview: how to set a public IP using only the touchscreen LCD display on a MikroTik router. Before commencing please ensure that the Ethernet port 1 ("ether1") is attached to the NTE/U (Network Termination Equipment/Unit), which is usually the fibre optic equipment that the engineer has installed.

A PDF version if these instructions is attached below.

Note: these screens are resistive (not like a phone), so some pressure is required - we recommend a plastic pen cap!

  • Tap initial screen
  • Tap "Interfaces"

  • Tap "ether1"
  • Tap "Addresses"
  • Tap "Add"

  • Enter PIN code:
    1234
  • [ Tap enter ]

  • Enter IP address
    (we will provide this)
  • [ Tap enter ]

  • Enter CIDR subnet*
    (we will provide this)
  • [ Tap enter ]
  • Let us know it's ready!

* We may instruct you to add a CIDR subnet of /30 even though your official subnet is a /31. This is a limitation of the initial basic config using the MIkroTik LCD screen; we will apply full config once you've set the initial IP address.
