What is archiving, and how you can get auto-expanding archiving?
Microsoft have never encouraged the use of an Outlook mailbox as a file store, but there are some legitimate job roles where huge mailboxes in excess of 50GB are absolutely required. Microsoft cater for mailboxes up to 100GB, and then also have a feature called "auto-expanding archiving" up to 1500GB; official documentation here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/autoexpanding-archiving
With a license* this includes auto-expanding archive an individual user mailbox has a 100GB quote (double the usual 50GB), and if the sizes nears 100GB then a configurable policy moves items to an "Archive mailbox" (searchable and usable from within the Outlook client). This archive is allowed to reach 1.5TB in size, at which point the archive can be moved to additional storage or a Data Retention policy can delete or move individual items (recommended), for example moving items to a shared mailbox where retention is absolutely required.
Example licenses: Microsoft 365 Business Premium or an Enterprise plan like E3 or E5
