Roaming with the Huawei E5573

Modified on Tue, 30 Jul 2019 at 10:22 PM

Overview: this pictorial guide will help you to configure your Huawei E5573 mobile MiFi together with the Huawei HiLink app. The article will show you how to enable the device for roaming (outside your country) and setting a usage limit warning. We've used an iPhone, but the steps are identical when using an Android smartphone too.

Here's a quick preview:

  • Open E5573, remove battery, insert SIM, replace battery. Do not replace cover. Turn on.
  • Download/install/launch "Huawei HiLink" app on phone
  • Connect phone's WiFi to the E5573 (WiFi name and pass key are printed inside the cover)
  • Set a secure password
  • Enable network "roaming"
  • Set long battery life options
  • Set a data plan
  • Easily monitor remaining data usage

Open. Remove battery and insert SIM.

...note that the WiFi name and pass key are printed inside the cover:

Download ("Get")/install and launch the "Huawei HiLink" app on your phone

Connect to the E5573 WiFi (name and pass key printed inside the cover). The HiLink app should now be able to detect the E5573:

Tap "Log in"; if prompted for the default "admin" password it is "admin". Leave the WiFi name and password as they are, but set the "device login password" to something more secure than "admin", then click "Next".

Tap "Start"

Note that the main page will display "No service" if you are outside your home country; we need to enable "Roaming". Tap the "Settings" (cog icon) at the top-right:

...and choose "Network"...

Enable "Data roaming", and then tap the back arrow (top-left) to return to the main device dashboard.

Within a couple of minutes your device will connect to the 4G network in whatever country you are in. Now let's optimize the battery settings. Tap "Tools":

...and tap "Battery":

Choose the battery settings, and then tap the back arrow (top-left) to return to the main device dashboard.

Now let's configure a device plan so that we can easily see how much data we have left whilst we are roaming in other countries. Tap the "Set plan" text (just tap the middle of the large circular dial):

...and click "Settings"...

Enable "Set monthly data plan", and then set the "Monthly data plan" limit - for example "19 GB". Tap the back arrow (top-left) to return to the main device dashboard.

At the main dashboard we can now quickly see how much of our monthly data roaming is remaining:

Want to make your precious roaming data go a lot further? Check out our article about Opera Turbo to reduce your data consumption by up to 90% - just by using a different browser app on your phone/tablet or laptop! Of course, it does not compress "streaming" (which is already compressed). Whatever you do when roaming abroad DO NOT STREAM VIDEO OR GAMES - that will eat through your data plan in just a few minutes!
