SoGEA approved routers

As of March 2016 BT OpenReach require VDSL routers to be supplied to End Users of all BT fibre (FTTC) installations. However, they have strict requirements as to which equipment is "approved". The OpenReach document (SIN 498) can be viewed here: http://www.sinet.bt.com/sinet/SINs/pdf/498v7p1.pdf

This is the current list (August 2023 of "approved" equipment that BT have published (see attachments at the end of this article). We are aware of many more VDSL routers that work perfectly well with BT fibre (FTTC), however it is important to note that BT OpenReach engineers may refuse to remain onsite to fix a fault if the equipment "does not meet the SIN 498 specifications"; the industry is awaiting further information to be published by BT OpenReach.

Using a 5G or 4G dongle

After inserting a mobile broadband dongle you may need to configure an APN in order to get a connection.

Click into the "Mobile" tile, then on the "Profiles" tab add a new profile:

Check the APN according to the SIM that we have sent you: https://internetservices.freshdesk.com/en/support/solutions/articles/5000822321-sim-markings-and-apn-settings 


Enter the APN details, then click the "+" icon to add the new profile:

You can return the the main page to verify signal quality and IP address. We recommend using the "Diagnostics" > "Ping "(tab) to ping 8.8.8.8 - this will verify that the router can reach Google's DNS servers. Feel free to raise a ticket is you need assistance with specific USB dongle and/or mobile SIM.



Editing the PPP username/password locally (if remote access not possible)

From a locally attached device (Wi-Fi or wired) go to http://192.168.1.1 and login with username engineer and the password is the Access Key (printed on the underside label and on the Wi-Fi card in the box)


Step 1: From the tile menu choose Internet Access


Step 2: Enter the new PPP username/password and click Save
