Sync BitLocker key to your Microsoft account

Modified on Wed, 19 Oct, 2022 at 12:15 PM

Overview: If you have a Microsoft M365 business license (such as Business Standard; E3, or similar) then you can sync data to Microsoft Azure AD in the cloud and enjoy added protection and recovery, including BitLocker keys - required if repairs or reinstall needed for your computer.

If you have not joined your device to Azure Active Directory (see image below), then you can still manually sync your device's BitLocker keys to your account anyway. This article explains how.

Navigate to BitLocker in Control Panel

Tip: Click Start and search "bitlocker"

Choose "Back up your recovery key"

...and choose the option "Save to your Azure AD account"

That's it! You can now click finish.

To verify that your BitLocker keys are available check https://myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list (or ask your Administrator to check for you).
