Request a PAC code

Modified on Sun, 17 May at 9:55 PM

If you need to move a mobile telephone number to us (UK, 07xxxxxxxxx) then you don't even need to contact your existing provider. Just follow these steps:

  • Send an SMS ("text") with just 3 letters "PAC" to 65075
  • Your existing provider will respond with your PAC code*, and any important information such as if you are still in contract with them (PAC code format is usually like "ABC123456")
  • Send the PAC code and your phone number to us within 30 days - we'll do the rest, and your new SIM that we supplied you with will be updated to use your original number. Simple.
  • It usually takes just 2 working days to port a number

* PAC: "Porting Authorisation Code"

(If you just want to check if you're in contract, without asking for the PAC code, just text "INFO" to 85075)

More info

The process is legally described as being for "consumers who wish to switch and keep (‘port’) their mobile phone number" (https://www.ofcom.org.uk/siteassets/resources/documents/consultations/uncategorised/7811-consumer-switching-mobile/summary/consumer-switching-mobile-consultation.pdf?v=334874) If you are a business, wishing to port more than 25 numbers, or have services that do not include voice and SMS services, such as a "data-only" service, then the PAC code process may not apply and you are advised to contact your current provider for assistance.

Data-only services

Since the PAC process is designed to help consumers and small businesses retain their mobile telephone number it requires the use of SMS (sending the text "PAC" to 65075). Most true "data-only" SIM services do not have the services to make voice (telephony) or SMS (text) communications, and therefore are exempt from the "Switching Mobile Phone Provider" regulations outlined at https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/switching-provider/switching-mobile-phone-provider These services are different to ones described as "voice & data", being clearly described and intended only for data services.

Usually, changing your "data-only" service will require a new SIM. Thankfully many 5G data devices now support eSIM, which can make it easier to deploy a data service without requiring a physical SIM replacement. Feel free to contact us if you would like help planning a change of data provider with minimal downtime.
