Overview: Help to convert existing BT Internet email account for free "Basic" subscription, to enable you to move all of your services to us without the concern that your existing provider "hold your email to ransom"! These instructions work for all email addresses ending with:

Under their heading "Types of email", expand the section "Basic email" and note their promise "Basic email is free. You don't need BT broadband to have it....A great choice if you're leaving BT Broadband and want to keep your email"

Steps to change to free "Basic" BT email

Dial BT's special number 0808 100 6778 (we tested this as recently as November 2025), and press option 1.

You may be asked some security questions to verify that you are the user of the email address, and some steps including:

• Receive a code sent to the email address to verify you are the user
• Resist potential sales tactics to retain your custom!

Once changed, verify that you are able to log into your email account at https://email.bt.com/mail/
