Overview: the business portal has a site feature called "Group Calling Line ID" which allows a group of users to have all outbound calls presented with a set presentation number different to the individual DDI for that user. For example, a group of users in "Sales" may have their outbound presentation number set to the company marketing number published on their website. There are legal implications as UK calls are regulated under OfCom.
Legal statement
"My customer has provided express consent for this number to be presented as a CLI on outbound calls made by any users I assign to this group. I have provided this consent in accordance with the terms and conditions provided by the Wholesale contract."
(The contract specifies that the customer is the legal registrant for that number, either because they have a contracted service such as VoIP where that number is hosted, or perhaps they have a PSTN/ISDN service. Another possibility is that the customer is the registrant for mobile services such as a SIM.)
Valid presentation numbers
In addition to the clear legal requirement of "legal registrant", there are some other OfCom restrictions on which numbers can be used:
- UK 01/02/03 numbers
- All numbers are valid
- UK 07 mobile numbers
- Any "real" mobile number is valid (assigned to a SIM, not a virtual number)
- Must not cost anymore to call than a standard UK mobile SIM
- UK 0800 numbers
- All numbers are allowed
- UK 084/087/070/09 numbers
- Not allowed, since the recipient could hit reply without realizing that it is a chargeable call
- International
- The number must be in E164 format - see https://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-E.164/
- Must include the country code
- Must be no more than 15 digits
- Must adhere to the same UK restrictions about "premium rate" numbers (not allowed)
Implementation
Log onto the business portal (https://voice.ispcloud.co.uk/businessportal/) as admin and navigate to the company & site > Features > Group Calling Line ID.
- Select the Group Calling Line ID type as "Configurable Number"
- Click Add to create a new group of users, or select an existing group
- Add or amend the users in the group
- Name the group (such as "Sales")
- Select(edit the presentation number
- Depending upon the number you may need to request our staff to add (and validate) the number for you, for legal reasons
- Save (and exit)
With minutes the configuration will be updated and the new number presented when any users in the group make an outbound call.
Single users: a group can be as small as a single user, so it's possible to make a group for each user and therefore override the DDI on a user-by-user basis.
