Redcare alarm over IP

Modified on Fri, 19 Aug, 2022 at 3:43 PM

BT Redcare alarm monitoring has traditionally used PSTN, which will be completely deactivated by 2025; see https://internetservices.freshdesk.com/en/support/solutions/articles/5000874986-2025-copper-phone-line-switch-off

The solution to this is to upgrade to pure IP based Redcare kit, and we recommend doing so well in advance of 2024 to prevent stock shortages and unavailability of engineers. The new IP-based kit support a simple Ethernet cable into your broadband router, or even Wi-Fi, and is much easier to fit than the previous old style PSTN "tap" method. Additionally, the Wi-Fi could be provided via 4G or 5G for added resilience compared to a traditional copper PSTN line which is not as tamper-proof.

Whilst we do not provide the Redcare services (available from BT directly), we do fully support Redcare IP integration and can help pre and post install.
